Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from Port Madison Bay or from Agate Passage. The passage carries strong tidal currents up to 6 knots at springs, plan transit near slack water. The dock is next to the House of Awakened Culture on the east side of the passage.
Practical
Day use only for visiting plaisanciers, short stays to go ashore for lunch or shopping. Overnight and long-term berths reserved for tribal vessels. No fuel, no shore power on the visitor float.
Ashore
House of Awakened Culture on the waterfront, longhouse rebuilt in 2009 in red cedar. Suquamish Museum at 600 m with exhibitions on tribal history. Chief Seattle's grave at St Peter's mission cemetery, 500 m north.
History
Suquamish sits on the site of the village of dxwsuqwub, home of Chief Seattle. The Old Man House longhouse, over 180 metres long, stood half a mile south of the current dock until it was burned by US agents in 1870. The current pier was built in 2008 to replace the older structure.
