Guide
Approach and anchoring
In northerly weather, anchorage can be had in 1 to 3 fathoms on a bottom of sand and rock. The cove is filled with kelp and carries scattered dangers, so local knowledge is needed. It is sheltered from NW through SE but open to the west. Monterey Municipal Marina lies 3.5 miles north-east.
Practical
A pier and boat hoist serve recreational craft from 1 May to 30 September, limited to ten boats a day, with launching from the beach by the Pebble Beach clubhouse.
Ashore
The cove sits within the Carmel Bay State Marine Conservation Area, established in 2007, where the kelp forests draw divers. Sea otters and sea lions are common, and grey and humpback whales pass on migration.
