Approach and anchoring
Open 24/7, harbour staff monitor VHF 16 and 5. Fuel berth on VHF 9, open 08:00 to 17:00. The marina sits inside the breakwater of Monterey Bay. Sea otters and sea lions are routinely seen on the breakwater and inside the basin.
Practical
408 berths plus tie-ups and 150 moorings, accepting boats from 3 to 15 metres. Shore power 20A and 50A at 120V, fresh water on every berth and end-tie. Diesel and petrol at the fuel berth, pump-out, showers, heads, laundry, oil disposal and a haul-out yard nearby. Office at 250 Figueroa Street, +1 831 646 3950.
Ashore
Old Fisherman's Wharf, built in 1870, is on the marina's doorstep with seafood restaurants and whale-watching operators. Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are 1 mile west along the waterfront recreation trail. Downtown Monterey is a 10-minute walk inland.
History
The wharf next to the marina was built in 1870 by the Pacific Coast Steamship Company for cargo and passengers, then taken over by the city in 1913. Cannery Row processed sardines from the early 1900s until the fishery collapsed after World War II, a story made famous by John Steinbeck's 1945 novel.
