Guide

Approach and anchoring

Spa Creek opens off the Severn River mouth, past the United States Naval Academy. Call the Annapolis harbourmaster on VHF channel 17 on arrival for an assigned ball. Most moorings work first come, first served. The mud bottom holds well; the field is open to the south and southeast.

Practical

The Front Forty field off Susan Campbell Park takes vessels up to 55 feet. Fresh water is available. A dinghy run lands at the city dock, with shops, chandlery and restaurants in the historic centre a short walk away.

Ashore

The city dock sits at the foot of Annapolis old town, a grid of 18th-century brick streets. The Naval Academy and its museum are about 600 metres away. The state capitol, in use since 1772, stands at the top of Main Street.

History

Annapolis served briefly as capital of the United States in 1783 and 1784, when Congress met in the State House.
