Approach and anchoring
Entrance between two outer moles east of the Môle Saint-Louis, shared with commercial and fishing traffic. Keep clear of cargo movements, call Sète Port Control on VHF 12 before entering. Plaisance basins inside, maximum draught 8 metres at the quay. Harbour office on VHF 9.
Practical
820 berths across the Môle Saint-Louis, Quai d'Alger and Quai de la Consigne basins. Fuel berth with diesel. Water and electricity on pontoons. All shops, fish market and daily covered market des Halles in the town centre within 300 m.
Ashore
Musée Paul Valéry and marine cemetery immortalised by the poet on Mont Saint-Clair, 1 km from the port, 180 m elevation view over the Gulf of Lion and the étang de Thau. Théâtre de la Mer in the former Fort Saint-Pierre hosts the Fiest'A Sète and jazz festivals each summer. Fish auction at the criée on the Môle quay.
History
Sète was founded in 1666 by Louis XIV and Colbert as the Mediterranean outlet of the Canal du Midi designed by Pierre-Paul Riquet. Birthplace of Paul Valéry in 1871 and Georges Brassens in 1921, both buried in the town.
Story
The joutes nautiques of Sète, water jousting tournaments between boats, have been held since 1666 and culminate each August on the Saint-Louis feast day on the Canal Royal.
