Approach and anchoring
Sheltered from NE, E and SE winds, fully open to the prevailing W. Strong tidal streams run parallel to the coast, up to 3 knots on springs. Rocky ground with sandy patches, careful ground tackle selection required. Approach clear of the drying rocks off Pointe du Rozel to the north.
Practical
No facilities at the anchorage. Barneville-Carteret 1,2 NM N has a drying marina with 307 berths, lock-gated inner basin and fuel. Portbail 3,3 NM SE offers a drying harbour accessible HW +/- 2h.
Ashore
Long sandy beach of Saint-Jean-de-la-Riviere stretches 3 km north to Barneville. Surfing school on the beach in season. Village centre 500 m inland with bakery and small shop. Coastal path to Carteret lighthouse 2,5 km north.
