Reached from the Scarpe inférieure via the locks of the Freycinet network. Air draught governed by the town bridges over the Scarpe. Speed limited to 6 km/h through Douai.

Short stretch of town quay for river boats. Town centre services within walking distance. Shops, bakeries and restaurants in the historic core around Place d'Armes. Gare de Douai SNCF about 700 m north-west with TGV links to Paris and Lille.
Ashore
Belfry of Douai, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as part of the Belfries of Belgium and France, rises over Place d'Armes 400 m from the quay. Musée de la Chartreuse, housed in a former Carthusian monastery, holds works by Veronese, Rubens and Jordaens, 600 m away. Collégiale Saint-Pierre dominates the town skyline.
History
Douai was a major cloth-making town in medieval Flanders and seat of a parliament under the French crown from 1713. The belfry dates from 1380 and carries a 62-bell carillon, one of the largest in Europe.
