Guide
Approach and anchoring
An open roadstead with no pontoons, sheltered from north and north-west but fully exposed to southerly storms. Around 260 moorings fill the bay over a sand bottom in 20 to 40 feet of water. Anchoring is allowed between the Avila and Cal Poly piers.
Practical
Ten guest moorings for vessels up to 35 feet and a few for larger boats are arranged through the harbour water taxi on VHF 16 or 12. Fresh water is available and a boatyard lies within the harbour. Morro Bay State Park Marina is 11.4 nm to the north-west.
Ashore
The shops and restaurants of Avila Beach are about 1.3 miles east along the harbour road. Avila Pier and Harford Pier both carry foot access, and a coastal path runs along the bay shore.
