Approach and anchoring

Approach along the buoyed channels serving the commercial port; stay clear of the main shipping fairway and listen to Dunkerque Port on VHF 73. Sand bottom with fair holding. Shelter only from the S, meaning from offshore wind; exposed to the whole sector N to W, typical of this coast.

Practical

No leisure services at Port Ouest itself, which is a working commercial and industrial harbour. Marina of Gravelines 4 nm SW with a lock, berths, water, fuel and shops. Dunkerque commercial port entrance 7,8 nm east, with the yacht basin of Dunkerque further in.

Ashore

The site sits between the Gravelines nuclear power station to the west and the dunes of the Dune Dewulf to the east, part of the Espace naturel sensible of the Flanders coast. Long sand beaches of Petit-Fort-Philippe accessible from Gravelines.
