Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Valinco gulf, a wide opening protected from western swell. Max draught 5 m allows large yachts. Entrance between two jetties with red and green lights. VHF 9 for the harbour office.

Practical

500 berths with visitor pontoons. Fuel station on the quay with diesel and petrol. Water, electricity, showers, toilets and waste pump-out. Supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants along the Avenue Napoléon, direct from the quays.

Ashore

Sandy beach of Propriano extends south of the port. Prehistoric site of Filitosa, with its carved menhir-statues, lies 17 km to the north. Coastal walk to the Scoglio Longo headland 2 km south along the gulf shore.

History

Propriano was developed as a port for shipping olive oil and wine during the 19th century, replacing the older roadstead of Porto Pollo. The town was occupied by Italian then German forces during World War II and liberated in September 1943.
