Approach and anchoring
Approach by the Sarthe, classified navigable from Le Mans to the confluence with the Maine. Lock of Noyen immediately downstream of the port, manually operated in low season. Speed limit of 6 km/h in the lock reach.
Practical
Pontoon with water and electricity posts. Pump-out. Slipway for small craft. No fuel on the quay. Boat hire base for houseboats without licence in season.
Ashore
Village centre 300 m from the quay, bakery and small grocery on rue de la Gare. Restaurant at the lock house. Walking path on the former towpath along the river, connecting to Malicorne at 6 km downstream. Medieval church of Saint-Germain in the village, twelfth century bell tower.
History
The Sarthe was made navigable for commercial traffic in the nineteenth century to carry slate from the Angers basin and grain from the plain of the Maine. The lock of Noyen was rebuilt in 1838 to the standard Becquey gauge of 30 metres by 5.2 metres.
