Small river halt on the Meuse between Sedan and Stenay, in the Ardennes, close to the village of Yoncq.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached by the Canal de la Meuse and the river navigation. Lock of Mouzon just upstream. Gauge clearance around 2.5 metres under town bridges, to verify before passage. Slow current except after heavy rainfall.
Practical
Short quay with bollards, water tap and low voltage electricity at the halt. Free or low fee managed by the municipality. Bakery, small grocery and cafe in the town centre at 300 m.
Ashore
Abbey church of Notre-Dame at 400 m, Gothic building from the 13th century, former Benedictine abbey. Museum of felt Musee du Feutre in a former abbey farm, Mouzon being a historic centre of felt manufacture. Ramparts and Porte de Bourgogne, 17th century town gate, still standing at the north entrance of town.
History
Mouzon was a fortified border town between the Duchy of Bouillon and the Kingdom of France. Louis XIV dismantled part of the ramparts in 1671 after incorporation into France. The felt factory, founded 1660, remained active until the 20th century.
