Cooperative sailing club on the north shore of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, with a 12-berth pontoon.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from Rockaway Inlet through the marked Sheepshead Bay channel, dredged to about 8 feet at low water. The bay runs east to west and shoals towards the head, so keep to the channel. Berths lie alongside the club pontoon on the north side off Emmons Avenue.
Practical
Twelve berths, mostly for members but visitor space can be booked through Dockwa. The club runs a fleet of shared sailing yachts and welcomes members who do not own a boat. Restaurants and the B and Q subway lines are within a few minutes' walk.
History
Founded in 1932 by Jewish sailors then excluded from other New York boating clubs, the club was incorporated as a member-owned cooperative in 1944. It has remained open to sailors of any background since.
