Approach and anchoring
Access from the Canal latéral à la Loire with no tidal constraint. Locks of Freycinet gauge operated by VNF, with clearances of 38 metres by 5,20 metres. Air draught limited to about 3,50 metres under the canal bridges.
Practical
Visitor pontoon on the canal with water and shore power. Base of hire boat operator Locaboat at the village. Bakery, small grocery and bar-restaurant within 200 metres. Larger shops at Sancoins at 10 km by road.
Ashore
Junction with the former Canal de Berry visible in the village, with the old lock house. Chapelle Saint-Laurent of the 12th century at 300 metres. Cattle market of Sancoins, one of the largest in France, held every Wednesday at 10 km.
History
The village grew around the junction of the Canal latéral à la Loire, opened in 1838, and the Canal de Berry, opened in 1840. The Canal de Berry was built to a narrower gauge of 2,60 metres and closed to commercial traffic in 1955.
