Marquette Yacht Club
- Type
- Harbour
Sailing club in Marquette's Lower Harbour, on Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Berths share the harbour basin with the city marina.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the Lower Harbour between the breakwater and the shore. The breakwater runs roughly 800 metres and carries a cylindrical light at its end, rebuilt in 1985. The basin gives shelter from Lake Superior swell off the open lake.
Practical
Club berths for members and visiting boats from reciprocal clubs. The club hosts the Marquette Junior Yacht Club sailing school, which moved here in 2009, plus the Ensign and Laser racing fleets.
Ashore
The 1931 ore dock stands beside the harbour, a disused iron-ore loading structure and the city's main maritime landmark. The Lake Superior multi-use path starts at the dock and runs along the shore into downtown Marquette.
