Approach and anchoring

Approach via the marked channels of the Bassin d'Arcachon, which shift with the sands. Strong tidal streams inside the basin, up to 4 knots near the passes. Mud bottom, holding fair. Anchor clear of the Eyrac and Thiers jetties used by passenger shuttles and oyster-farming traffic.

Practical

No services at the anchorage itself. Port d'Arcachon marina 1 NM to the east, with 2 600 berths, fuel berth, water, electricity and full repair facilities. L'Aiguillon 1.4 NM to the SE as an alternative mooring area.

Ashore

Seafront of Arcachon and the Ville d'Hiver district 400 m from the Jetée Thiers landing, with late 19th century villas built for the first bathing tourists. Market hall of Arcachon open daily except Monday in low season, 600 m from the jetty. Plage Thiers at the foot of the anchorage.
