Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reach Skagit Bay through the Swinomish Channel, where the southern entrance shoals and is dredged only every three years; favour the east side and watch the tide on the mud flats. The buoy field lies on the island's northern flank, sheltered from winds between west and south-east through south. The bottom is weed, so check the anchor is well set if the buoys are taken.

Practical

Five mooring buoys, first come first served, with fees payable on shore or by phone to Washington State Parks. Six primitive campsites sit above the north shore with a vault toilet in the woods. No fuel, water or shore power on the island. Pioneer Point Marina and La Conner Marina lie about 3 miles east for provisions and repairs.

Ashore

Land on the north shore for the trail network across the island, most of which is a nature reserve closed to camping away from the marked sites. La Conner village, 3 miles east, has shops, restaurants and a chandlery within walking distance of the marina landing.
