Ashore
Hessel hosts the Les Cheneaux Antique Wooden Boat Show on the second Saturday of August, founded in 1978 and now drawing close to 150 classic boats and around 8,000 visitors.
History
The wooden boat show was started in 1978 by Chuck Letts and Ken Horsburgh, summer residents who realised the cold water and short season had preserved an unusual concentration of pre-1940 craft still in regular use in the islands.
