Approach and anchoring
Inland canal navigation, no tide. One berth, maximum draught 1.5 m. The canal was built between 1861 and 1866 and runs 63 km through Lorraine and western Alsace with 27 locks. Locks are operated remotely by VNF, call in advance by telephone for passage. Beam and air draught as standard Freycinet gauge.
Practical
Simple mooring against the bank, no services on site. Water and electricity at the port of Harskirchen, 2.3 NM NE, and at Mittersheim, 3.7 NM SW, both with full boater services, showers, laundry and waste pump-out. Nearest shops in Harskirchen village.
Ashore
Domaine de Bonnefontaine at Altwiller nearby, neo-Palladian estate completed between 1818 and 1822 around a mineral spring discovered in 1603. Écluse 16 restaurant at Altwiller. Véloroute Sarre-Moselle cycle path runs along the towpath, links Sarreguemines and Gondrexange.
