Approach and anchoring

Approach by the Gironde channel. Mud bottom with good holding. Shelter from W only, exposed to the full length of the estuary. Tidal streams are strong, up to 3 knots, and the estuary carries the ebb a long way offshore. The Lamarque to Blaye vehicle ferry crosses here, keep clear of the ferry track.

Practical

No yacht facilities at the landing itself. Halte nautique de Blaye, 1.9 nautical miles NE, offers pontoon berths, water and electricity. Plassac lies 1.9 nautical miles east on the right bank.

Ashore

Fort Médoc, built by Vauban in 1689 as part of the Verrou de l'estuaire defensive system with Fort Pâté and the Citadelle de Blaye, is 1 km from the landing. The site is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Médoc wine estates of the Haut-Médoc AOC surround the village.
