Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Detroit River, between the MacArthur Bridge and the DTE generating plant. River current runs through, plan berthing for the flow. Address 1 Riverbank Road, Belle Isle.
Practical
Private members' club with reciprocal access for visiting yacht club members. Berths, fuel, fresh water, shore power. Indoor swimming pool, restaurants, ballroom in the 1923 clubhouse.
Ashore
Belle Isle Park surrounds the club, with aquarium, conservatory and 982 acres of parkland. Downtown Detroit at 6 km west across the MacArthur Bridge.
History
Founded by Detroit sailing enthusiasts in 1868. The current Mediterranean revival clubhouse, designed by George D. Mason with cornerstone laid by Gar Wood in 1922 and completed in 1923, is the largest yacht club building in the United States.
