Approach and anchoring
Des Moines lies on the east shore of East Passage, the stretch of Puget Sound between the mainland and Vashon Island. The marina entrance is between the fishing pier and the north end of the breakwater. Maximum draught handled is about 4 metres.
Practical
CSR Marine has run boatyards on Puget Sound since 1977 and operates the yard at Des Moines Marina. The yard handles haul-outs for vessels up to 80 feet, with collision and fibreglass repair, gelcoat and paint work, mechanical and rigging services. A fuel berth at the marina supplies petrol, diesel and propane, with a free pump-out.
Ashore
The Des Moines waterfront, with shops and restaurants, adjoins the marina. Dockton Park and Quartermaster Yacht Club lie about 5.3 miles west across East Passage on Vashon Island.
