Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Chesapeake Bay through the marked Magothy River entrance south of Gibson Island, then up Mill Creek. The Magothy is a tidal estuary with a modest range, so depths change little through the day. Hold to the channel as the creek shoals towards its banks.
Practical
Open anchorage on a mud bottom, good holding. No facilities on the water. L.J. Marina lies 0.7 miles to the north-west and Mill Creek Marina 1.1 miles north-west for fuel and provisions.
Ashore
The Magothy River Water Trail links creeks and coves around the 12-mile river for dinghy and kayak exploration.
