Full-service marina at Newport on the Michigan shore of western Lake Erie, between Detroit and Toledo.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from Lake Erie through Brest Bay, on the marshy stretch of shoreline north of Monroe. The bay is shallow, so deeper-draught boats should follow the marked approach and keep an eye on lake levels, which run lower in offshore winds. The marina sits near the mouth of Swan Creek.
Practical
In-water berths in a range of sizes, plus rack and launch service and winter storage. There is a fuel berth, restrooms, showers, waste disposal, a fish-cleaning station and a ships store. Open May to October. VHF and reservations through the harbour master.
Ashore
The marina has a small beach with a fire pit. Sterling State Park lies about 8 km south at Monroe, with sand beach and lagoons. Monroe town centre, with shops and the River Raisin National Battlefield Park, is roughly 12 km away.
Story
This part of Lake Erie is promoted as the Walleye Capital of the World, and the marina caters heavily to anglers fishing the western basin.
