Approach and anchoring

Big Bay Creek runs along the inland side of Edisto Beach, from salt marsh near Edisto Beach State Park out to Edisto Inlet on the South Edisto River. The bottom is sand and mud. This is a tidal creek, so expect a strong stream and time the entrance with the flood or ebb. The marsh gives shelter from all directions.

Practical

Edisto Beach Marina lies 0.4 miles south-east on Big Bay Creek and handles fuel and provisions. Live Oak Landing, a public ramp run by the state park, is on the same creek. From the creek mouth turn for the ocean to port or for Fenwick Cut and the ICW to starboard.

Ashore

The Plantation Course at Edisto, an 18 hole par 70 laid out by Tom Jackson among oaks and palmettos, adjoins the anchorage, with Grovers restaurant and bar at the clubhouse. Edisto Beach State Park, on the South Edisto River and the Atlantic shore, has marked trails through the maritime forest.
