Municipal marina of about 1,000 berths on the east shore of San Francisco Bay, within reach of the city by water.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach across the bay from the south end of the Berkeley Pier. The harbour entrance is marked and the basin sits behind a breakwater. Berths take boats from 16 to 110 feet, with a launch ramp and trailer parking on the north shore.
Practical
Berths have fresh water, shore power, night lighting, gear lockers and locked gates. Facilities include showers, a fuel dock, a boatyard and dry storage for about 100 boats. Several restaurants, a hotel and a yacht club stand around the marina.
Ashore
Cesar Chavez Park sits on the headland just north of the marina, a capped landfill turned green space with walking paths and bay views. Downtown Berkeley and the University of California campus lie roughly 3 km inland.
History
The first harbour here was built in 1936 with Works Progress Administration funding. The marina was expanded after the Second World War, and its 1,000 berths were laid out through the 1960s.
