Approach and anchoring
On the navigable Oise, downstream of the lock of L'Isle-Adam. Moor alongside the quay near the road bridge. No services at the pontoon.
Practical
No water, no electricity, no fuel. Short-stay mooring used mainly to visit Auvers on foot. Shops and restaurants in Auvers village centre at 10 minutes walk.
Ashore
Auvers-sur-Oise village centre at 700 m. Maison de Van Gogh at the Auberge Ravoux, where the painter died in 1890, 900 m from the mooring. Church of Notre-Dame d'Auvers, subject of Van Gogh's 1890 painting now at the Musee d'Orsay, 1 km. Graves of Vincent and Theo van Gogh in the communal cemetery at 1,3 km. Chateau d'Auvers and its gardens at 1,2 km.
History
Auvers-sur-Oise drew Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters from the 1860s. Charles-Francois Daubigny settled here in 1861 and welcomed Corot, Daumier, Cezanne and Pissarro. Vincent van Gogh spent the last 70 days of his life in Auvers in 1890 and painted over 75 canvases there.
