Approach and anchoring
The anchorage sits beside the Coast Guard Air Station. Three large yellow can buoys mark the restricted water to the east, and a red channel buoy marks the west end at the Harbor Island lagoon entrance. Sand bottom, sheltered from north-west through east.
Practical
A9 takes up to 20 vessels and is open only to boaters from outside San Diego County. Permits run 30 days, renewable to a 90-day total, and are issued in person at the Harbor Police office on Shelter Island Drive. Black water must be held aboard and discharged at a pump-out.
Ashore
Safe Harbor Sunroad marina lies 0.4 nautical miles to the west, with the Sheraton hotel and marina a further short distance along Harbor Island.
