- Harbour
River pontoon that dries at low water on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, commune of Saint-Genès-de-Blaye, facing the Île Nouvelle.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Tidal estuary, strong currents on the ebb, 3 to 4 knots on springs. Approach aligned with the main channel from the Blaye side. No lights, daytime entry only. The berth dries onto a mud bottom, so time arrival and departure with the tide. The Île Nouvelle lies 1,8 nautical miles to the south and the Port de la Belle Étoile 1,2 miles to the north on the same bank.
Practical
Basic pontoon, no marina services. Water and shops in Saint-Genès-de-Blaye 2 km inland. Nearest fuel and yard at Blaye, 5 km downstream.
Ashore
Île Nouvelle, property of the Conservatoire du Littoral since 1991, reached by a Gironde Département ferry from Blaye. The island, 6,3 km long between Pauillac and Blaye, was a vineyard estate until abandonment in the 1990s and has been returned to tidal marshland for wetland birds.
