Approach and anchoring
Approach through the Coureau d'Oléron. Strong tidal streams on the flood and ebb, oyster beds on both sides of the channel. Oyster boats work the river in numbers around low water and pass close to the moorings, throwing wash. The wooden jetty is only reachable about 1.5 hours either side of high water. Shelter from S and SE, open to the N. Port à sec de Mus de Loup 0.9 NM SE, Marennes 1.6 NM SE.
Practical
The mooring field is charged for. A small convenience store within walking distance of the wooden jetty sells basics and camping-gas cylinders.
Ashore
Seaside resort of the late 19th century, shops and cafés along the seafront. Oyster farms of the Marennes-Oléron basin all around the estuary, with tastings at the cabanes on the Seudre.
