Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the NW out of Saint-Trojan-les-Bains through the Coureau d'Oléron. Strong tidal streams run in the coureau, over 3 knots at springs. Avoid the drying oyster beds that line the eastern shore of the island. VHF 8 for the local mooring manager.
Practical
Two buoys only, first come first served, with no water or power on them. Landing is by a paying shuttle, call the CNCO to arrange it. Saint-Trojan-les-Bains 1.2 nm NW for shops, fuel and a full-service marina. Port à sec de Mus de Loup 2.8 nm SE for dry storage and haul-out.
Ashore
At low water a wide sandy beach uncovers, dotted with sandbanks and tidal pools. The Forêt domaniale de Saint-Trojan spreads over 2 000 ha of maritime pine behind it, crossed by a narrow-gauge tourist train, the Petit Train de Saint-Trojan, running to the Pointe de Maumusson. The Bassin de Marennes-Oléron, visible to the east, is the largest oyster-farming area in Europe.
