Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east in settled weather, under an impressive cliff on the Spanish border. The bottom is mostly rock with only a few sand patches, so drop on the sand, check the set and treat it as a fair weather lunch stop. Water is deep close in to the cliff. Sheltered from NW through N to SW, open to E and SE. Port de Cerbère lies 0.5 nm NW as a refuge, Banyuls-sur-Mer 3.2 nm NW.
Practical
No facilities. Day anchorage only. All supplies at Cerbère, 0.5 nm NW.
Ashore
The Cerbère-Banyuls marine reserve begins just north, the oldest marine reserve in metropolitan France, created in 1974. Underwater trail at Peyrefite beach, 1 nm NW. Coastal path GR 10 passes above the cove. A small underwater cave full of life opens at the foot of the cliff, reachable only from the water, in clear water thick with fish.
