Approach and anchoring
Approach along the east coast of Ouessant into the bay of Le Stiff. The seabed is rock with patches of weed and the water is deep, so anchoring is hard and holding uncertain; three free white visitor buoys are laid instead, two in deeper water outside and one among the local moorings, marked Stiff. Shelter from SW and W winds, but an easterly swell almost always works into the bay. The Brest ferry lands nearby. VHF channel 9.
Practical
Three moorings available, no other facilities. Nearest refuge ports are L'Aber-Ildut, 11.8 nm to the east, and the small anchorage south of Île Melon at 11.1 nm east.
Ashore
A cafe and bike-hire stand near the landing, and bikes are the usual way to tour the island. Land the tender at the ramp and carry it above the high-water line. Coastal paths ring the island, with the lighthouse museum and the main town of Lampaul inland.
