Large purpose-built marina at the southern tip of the Rhuys peninsula in Morbihan, just outside the entrance to the Gulf of Morbihan. 1432 berths over five basins.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the S or SW leaving the Grand Mont headland to starboard. Entrance channel dredged to 2.5 m, marked by red and green lit marks. Strong tidal streams off the entrance during ebb from the Gulf of Morbihan, up to 4 knots at springs. VHF 9 for the harbour master, 24 hour access.
Practical
1432 berths, max draught 2 m on visitor pontoons. Diesel and petrol on the fuel pontoon at the entrance. Water and electricity on all pontoons, launderette, 50 ton travel lift and full boatyard. The sanitary blocks are new and among the best, spread around the port. Reception on the water is chronically short-handed, so expect a wait for a berth even when it is quiet. Pontoons and catways sit low, so lower the fenders. Berths are dear for the region. An Intermarché and a small Proxi are by the port, the bakery is a walk.
Ashore
Port-Navalo and its lighthouse are a 30 minute walk N along the coastal path GR 34, with a free bus also linking the two. The path continues E to the tumulus of Petit Mont, a Neolithic cairn dated around 4500 BC. Beach of Fogeo, 1.5 km W, is sandy and sheltered. Restaurants Le Cap Horn and Le Transat in the port. A bus also runs to Vannes for a bad-weather day out. Regular passenger boats to the islands of the Gulf of Morbihan leave from Port-Navalo.
History
Port du Crouesty was dug from scratch in the rocky coast between 1970 and 1973, one of the largest marina projects of that period on the French Atlantic coast.
