Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south inside the rade de Brest, clear of the Roscanvel shore. Anchor in 3 to 6 m on the visible sand patches, where holding is only fair; the weed does not hold and local mooring buoys take up much of the sand. Concrete blocks and rocks lie hidden under the weed, so pick the spot by eye in clear water, and a stern anchor helps steady the boat. Shelter from N, NW and NE winds behind the peninsula; exposed to southerly breezes blowing down the rade. The small harbour of Port de la Croix lies 0.2 NM to the NW, Port de l'Argol 0.8 NM to the N as alternate refuges.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Land by dinghy on the sandy beach, easiest near high water. Small boat slip and a few local moorings ashore. Village of Roscanvel inland with bakery and grocery for basic provisioning.
