Guide
Approach and anchoring
Île d'Hoedic in the Morbihan, close southeast of Houat. Sand bottom, moorings on heavy tons and buoys, often rafted several abreast; setting the hawsers is fiddly, and the raft rides more steadily once every buoy is taken. Protection on all sectors except north and northeast: in a N or NE wind the harbour is uncomfortable, boats snubbing and knocking together around the tons, so avoid it then and carry large fenders. Port de la Croix 0.6 nm south gives better cover in a northerly but dries with the tide. VHF 9 for the moorings manager.
Practical
135 visitor and annual buoys, water ashore, no fuel on site. Around 38 euros a night for a 40 foot boat in July and August, showers included, as the Morbihan escale passport is not valid then. The office opens only from 17:00 and is quickly swamped in season, so expect a wait for help on the tons and bring a dinghy rather than rely on the shuttle. Recent, clean sanitary facilities.
Ashore
The island village is a short walk from the port, with restaurants including Chez Jean Paul, La Trinquette and its terrace, and the Café du Nord overlooking the harbour. A fine sand beach fronts the port, where boats take the ground at low water, and footpaths run round the low, treeless island.
