Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access via the Chenal de Goulée from the main estuary channel. Entry only around high water, the channel dries at low water to a mud bottom on which boats settle. Strong tidal streams in the Gironde, typically 2 to 3 knots on the flood. No night entry, channel unlit.
Practical
Small wooden pontoons used mainly by local fishing boats and a few shoal draft yachts. No fuel, no chandlery on site. Village of Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac about 3 km inland with a bakery and a small grocery.
Ashore
Phare de Richard at 1 nm NW, small lighthouse museum open in season. Two restaurants stand at the port. Traditional carrelets, the square fishing nets on stilts, line the bank. Médoc vineyards of the Haut-Médoc and Médoc AOC start a few kilometres inland.
