Tidal port on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, in the commune of Chenac-Saint-Seurin-d'Uzet, south of Mortagne-sur-Gironde.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access strictly tide-dependent. Entry channel dries at low water, most crews plan HW plus or minus 2 hours. Follow the marked channel from the Gironde between the mudflats. Strong tidal streams of up to 3 knots in the main estuary, use spring flood to enter and ebb to leave. The entrance channel is reported heavily silted and effectively impassable for visiting boats, now workable only by shallow-draught local craft.
Practical
About 84 berths, mainly for local boats. Water on pontoons, basic sanitary facilities. Limited visitor capacity, contact the harbour office in advance. Village of Chenac has a bakery and a café. Nearest larger shops at Cozes, 6 km inland.
Ashore
Former fishing carrelets lined along the estuary banks, characteristic square-net huts on stilts. Walking path along the cliffs of Meschers at 5 km north. Troglodyte caves of Regulus at Meschers at 6 km, open to visitors.
