Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east, keeping clear of the shallow rocky shelf that extends from the point. Holding is poor over rock, so position the anchor on a sand patch between the boulders, with more room and less crowding than the channel between the two islands. Some current sets through that channel. Shelter from NW, N and NE, fully exposed to the SE swell.
Practical
In season a pizza boat and a sushi boat run out to deliver to the anchorage, and are not expensive.
Ashore
Fort Royal, built under Vauban in the 17th century and later used as the prison of the Man in the Iron Mask, is a 15-minute walk along the coastal path. Musée de la Mer in the same fort. Signposted forest loops cross the eucalyptus and pine cover of the island.
