Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Cannes roadstead; larger yachts should come in from the west, as only a narrow deep corridor runs in from the east. Sand patches alternate with posidonia; drop on clear sand only, posidonia is legally protected along this coast. A submarine cable crosses between the islands and its protective covering has been torn away in places, leaving it exposed on the light sand, so anchor with care. A current can run through the centre of the anchorage and swing a boat across the wind or swell. Exposed from NW through SE, untenable in strong mistral. Port des Moines 0.2 NM S, Sainte-Marguerite jetty 0.7 NM NW.

Practical

No services on the plateau itself. Tenders land at the Sainte-Marguerite jetty for the fort and the forest paths, or at the small Port des Moines on Saint-Honorat for the Lérins abbey, where a dinghy may be left up to 6 hours when the harbour is open. Ice cream, aperitif and pizza boats work the anchorage through the day.

Ashore

Fort Royal and the Musée de la Mer on Sainte-Marguerite at 0.7 NM, with the cell said to have held the Man in the Iron Mask, and an underwater sculpture museum in the swim zone off the island. Lérins abbey on Saint-Honorat, Cistercian community active since 1869, vineyard and shop open to visitors; the monastery fort has reopened after renovation and both fort and abbey are free to visit.
