Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the west, watching for the rocks off the north shore of the island. Sand bottom with good holding. Sheltered from NE, E, S and SE winds, exposed to the N and W. Even in the sheltering easterly a west swell tends to wrap into the bay, so anchor well off the beach as the swell makes the dinghy landing rough. Anchoring is allowed, only landing on the islets is prohibited.
Practical
No facilities at the beach. Port de Saint-Gildas, the small harbour of Houat, lies 1.6 NM to the E with water, bins and a shop in the village. Port de l'Argol on Île d'Hoedic sits 5.8 NM to the SE.
Ashore
The beach runs for about 1 km of white sand. Houat village, with two bakeries, a small supermarket and the island church, is roughly 2 km east on foot across the island. The whole island is part of the Natura 2000 Mor Braz site.
