Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north through the Petite Passe between the coast and the Île du Grand Gaou. The bottom is mainly posidonia with thin sand pockets, so it can take several tries to drop on clear sand, where holding is good, in about 4.5 to 7 metres. Sheltered from SE to W, exposed to the north and the mistral funnel. Zone de Mouillage et d'Équipement Léger rules apply in part of the area, with seasonal buoys to protect the seagrass. The Paul Ricard shuttles and passing ferries set up a heavy wash through the day that eases at night once the shuttles stop.
Practical
The port of Saint-Pierre des Embiez lies 0.1 NM to the southwest for diesel, water, a small supermarket and berths, with easy access to the fuel station. Le Brusc 0.8 NM to the east is a larger harbour with full provisions. Land the dinghy in the harbour, or on the Salins beach in the evening once the swimmers have left; the visitor dock outside the harbour is exposed to the shuttle wash. A nightclub on the island can carry heavy bass across the anchorage at night.
Ashore
The restaurant Sarti on the Île des Embiez, with a burger stand and an ice-cream parlour on the beach. The Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute runs a public aquarium and a Mediterranean science museum, and a marked loop path circles the island. The salt marshes behind the beach form part of the Natura 2000 site of the Lagune du Brusc. The Sentier du Littoral follows the coast between Le Brusc and the Cap Sicié to the east.
