Guide
Approach and anchoring
Wide open entrance from the south-east. Anchor on sand north of the central rocky shoals in 4 to 8 m, with cleaner sand closer in at about 2 m; check the set, since weed, rock and old anchor stones are scattered across the bottom. Rocks lie awash at the eastern end of the bay, so close it slowly with a lookout. The swinging room is small, for only a boat or two. Protected from E, SE and S, fully exposed to the libeccio from the west.
Practical
No services in the bay itself. Small harbour of Sant'Amanza 0.7 NM to the south-west, Bonifacio marina 3.5 NM to the south-west for full services, fuel and provisioning.
Ashore
Long sandy beach of Maora on the north shore of the gulf, backed by maquis, with a good fish restaurant, les Pirates, on the beach to the north within walking distance. Windsurfing and kitesurfing spot when the libeccio blows. The Bouches de Bonifacio marine reserve starts south of the gulf, and the white limestone cliffs of Bonifacio are a short sail away.
