Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south clear of the offshore rocks. Mixed rock and sand, so drop on a clear sand patch, best in the centre to northern part of the bay in 4 to 6 metres. The beach shelves steeply and the bottom drops away quickly, so allow plenty of chain. Holding is good and the bay is well sheltered in NE winds; exposed to the southerly sector.
Practical
No moorings or services at the beach. Lomener harbour 2.7 NM to the SE and Guidel 3.4 NM to the NW for shelter.
Ashore
The beach takes its name from the former kaolin quarry above the cliffs, worked until the late 20th century. One part of the beach is used by naturists, the rest is supervised in season, and rock pools line the shore. It looks across to the Île de Groix. Coastal path GR 34 runs along the clifftop.
