Guide
Approach and anchoring
A small cove at the entrance to Carro fishing harbour, open to the south but well sheltered from the mistral and NW. Room for only 2 to 4 boats and often full, with rocks around the sandy patch, so anchor on sand in 3 to 5 metres clear of the swimmer zones marked by yellow buoys from June to September, and keep off the harbour entrance to leave the fishing boats room. A west wind sets a cross south swell into the bay, and the fishing boats come and go from before dawn, their wash rolling the anchorage.
Practical
Water point ashore at Carro fishing harbour 0.1 nm west; no fuel berth for visiting yachts. Land the tender alongside a quay inside the harbour, as the beach is closed to dinghies and paddles in high season. A fish market and bakery in the village, with a small fruit and vegetable market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, though the grocery is poorly stocked. When the cove is full, the wider but less sheltered Anse du Verdon lies just east. Port des Laurons 1.6 nm NW for a sheltered overnight berth.
Ashore
Carro is a working fishing village, morning catch sold directly on the quay, with the pizzeria Antonio well liked. The GR 51 coastal path runs west towards Cap Couronne lighthouse, about 3 km one way, and east along the Calanques de la Cote Bleue marine park. The Cote Bleue marine park, created in 1983, protects Posidonia meadows and no-take zones off Carry-le-Rouet and Niolon.
