Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the S through the gulf, keeping clear of the rocks off the Pointe de Sant'Amanza on the west shore. Bottom of sand and posidonia; drop on clear sand patches, in around 4 metres, watching for shoals carrying only 2 metres. Shelter from NW through W to SW, best tucked under the white cliff where a strong westerly is felt only lightly. Open to E and SE wind and to a N or NE swell, untenable in a strong levante.
Practical
Forain anchorage only, no services. Head of the gulf at Sant'Amanza lies 1.1 nm to the S with a few moorings. Bonifacio marina is 3.6 nm to the SW with full services, diesel and all chandlery.
Ashore
A restaurant stands on the beach. The Canetto beach is part of the Natura 2000 site of the bouches de Bonifacio. The GR 20 sud coastal variant links Sant'Amanza to Bonifacio across the limestone plateau.
Story
The bouches de Bonifacio international marine park straddles the strait between Corsica and Sardinia and is jointly managed by France and Italy since 2012.
