Approach and anchoring

Reached only by inland waterway, from Beaucaire to the E or from the Étang de Thau to the W. Air draught limited by the canal bridges, maximum draught around 1,60 m. Mud bottom. No natural swell; wind fetch limited to the canal width.

Practical

Halte fluviale de Saint-Gilles at 0,1 nm S, Halte Plaisance VNF at 0,4 nm SE for water and mooring on pontoon. Three recently rebuilt wooden pontoons front the towpath and cycle track at the spot itself, but they carry no cleats or bollards, read more as fishing platforms than berths, and suit small craft rather than heavier boats.

Ashore

Abbatiale de Saint-Gilles, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France, at 700 m. Entry to the Camargue regional nature park southward, with flamingos on the Étang de Scamandre.
