Approach and anchoring

Approach from the Atlantique through the Golfe du Morbihan pass between Pointe de Kerpenhir and Port-Navalo, where tidal streams regularly exceed 6 knots at springs. Work the tide gates carefully. Max draught 0,9 m on the pontoons, the harbour dries at low water springs. VHF 9.

Practical

119 berths, visitors on the outer north pontoon. Water and electricity on the quay. The harbour team is on site in summer, otherwise call ahead on the number given. Around 8 euros a night for a 9 metre boat in June. Public toilets by the church are well kept. Capitainerie, bakery, grocery and restaurants within 300 m in the village. Oyster farms along the foreshore supply the local bars.

Ashore

Neolithic site of Locmariaquer at 700 m from the port: Grand Menhir Brisé, Table des Marchands dolmen and Er Grah tumulus, managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux. Plage de Saint-Pierre-Lopérec at 1,2 km, Pointe de Kerpenhir and its Notre-Dame-de-Kerdro statue at 1,5 km facing the pass.

History

Locmariaquer was a major Neolithic centre around 4500 to 4000 BC. The Grand Menhir Brisé, originally 20,6 m high, is the largest known standing stone ever raised in Europe.
