Approach and anchoring

Approach between île Sainte-Marguerite and île Saint-Honorat through the plateau du Milieu, watching for rocky heads. The bottom is sand mixed with posidonia and rock and a clear patch takes finding, often in 8 to 10 m; rig a trip line and do not drop too deep, as anchors foul here. Shelter from N to NW; open to the S swell, which wraps in and rolls the anchorage. Yacht and tender wake works the spot by day, easing at night.

Practical

Forain anchorage, no services. Port des Moines 0,8 NM to the SW on île Saint-Honorat, Sainte-Marguerite débarcadère 1,2 NM to the W with seasonal ferry link to Cannes.

Ashore

Fort Royal on île Sainte-Marguerite, 17th century fortress where the Man in the Iron Mask was held from 1687 to 1698, now the musée de la Mer. Eucalyptus and pine forest crossed by marked footpaths over the whole island. Monastic community of Saint-Honorat on the neighbouring island produces wine and liqueur since the Middle Ages.
