Marina of 360 berths inside the Bonne Anse lagoon at the northern entrance of the Gironde estuary, on the Côte de Beauté.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry through a narrow tidal channel dredged across the sandbanks of Bonne Anse, usable within two hours either side of high water for vessels drawing up to 1.8 m. Approach from the Passe Ouest of the Gironde and keep to the buoyed channel, which is bordered by shallows. The entrance is narrow, marked by a green and a red pole; come in towards the end of the flood, as a strong cross-current runs at mid-tide and worsens on big tidal coefficients. VHF 9, and the staff guide boats in by radio.
Practical
Fingered pontoons with water and electricity. Fuel berth. Crane 12 t and careening area. Capitainerie, WC and showers on the port quay, the showers open only during office hours. Supermarket and restaurants in the La Palmyre resort at 500 m.
Ashore
Zoo de La Palmyre, one of the largest in France with 1 600 animals, at 700 m from the port. Forêt domaniale de La Coubre with its lighthouse and cycle paths, direct access from the port. Bike hire lies within 300 m of the port, with a children's play park right in front of it. Plage de Bonne Anse to the north-west inside the lagoon, reachable on foot at low water.
Story
The Bonne Anse lagoon formed after 1970 when sand drift closed the former straight coastline, creating both the sheltered basin and the shifting bar that still governs the entry.
